Who Is Zareef Hamid — A Professional Biography
Former strategy consultant turned social entrepreneur, Zareef Hamid is the founder of Velwire, an early-stage startup that builds and operates real-time digital payment systems for financial institutions in emerging economies.
Velwire is working in collaboration with large-cap tech firms and central banks to facilitate swift, secure, and seamless transactions for all stakeholders in the financial ecosystem.
Prior to founding Velwire, as a consultant for BCG and KPMG, Zareef led large-scale digital transformations and advised companies to enter and grow in the fintech space. His clients have included fortune 100 companies and financial services firms, including sovereign wealth funds, commercial banks, and tech startups.
He has a history of supporting social impact projects in Asia, from working in the world’s largest NGO, BRAC, to volunteering in the Rohingya refugee camps with Friendship NGO.
Zareef graduated from American University in Washington DC with a BSc. in economics and international relations. Zareef is also a sports and music enthusiast, having competed at the national level in martial arts and performing alongside prominent artists from South Asia.
